Each bone is connected to the next by an "interphalangal joint". In each finger, there are three "digital bones". Movement at this joint is needed for grasping and holding. The first joint where our fingers connect to our hand is call the metacarpal-phalangal joint, or MP joint for short. The bones between the fingers & the wrist (carpal bones) are called the "metacarpals". (FYI This OT is missing the Intermediate and Distal Phalange bones on her left ring finger.) We also know that, for the most part, we all have 4 fingers (the index finger, the middle finger, the ring finger and the pinkie) and 1 thumb. We all know the hand is attached to our forearm by our wrist. The bones in the wrist are called the "carpal bones".
